Former Metro (Avalanche) players go for career highs

LOGAN, Utah - Junior guard Taylor Richards hit two free throws with 2.9 seconds remaining to capture a thrilling 85-83 win for the Utah State women's basketball team over Idaho State Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Richards was one of three Aggies to post career-highs, netting a team-high 26 points.

Richards was followed by junior forward Jamelah Brown with a career-high 18 points, while sophomore forward Lindsey Freeze tallied a career-high 17 points.

Idaho State came out of halftime with a 22-8 run to take a 55-51 lead at 14:25 after a jumper by Doma, and led for the majority of the remaining of the game but Utah State would not let the deficit grow, event countering with a spurt to take an 81-77 lead with 1:31 after a pair of Freeze free throws.

After Richards gave the Aggies an 83-82 lead with 25.8 seconds left, Lightfoot was fouled with 14.5 ticks on the clock. She missed the first and made the second to knot the score at 83-all.

Utah State brought the ball up court and Richards drove the lane and was fouled by Lightfoot. After an Idaho State timeout, Richards netted both free throws with 2.9 showing on the clock. Idaho State got a long inbounds pass to Lightfoot, but her tightly contested three-pointer from the corner was off the mark as the buzzer sounded, sparking the Aggies' jubilation.

Both Lindsey Freeze and Taylor Richards played for the Utah Avalanche, the predecssor club team to Salt Lake Metro.
