Taylor Altenburg, a 6-foot shooting guard from Elko, Nev., said she has committed to playy for New Mexico State University next season. She expects to sign with the Aggies during the early signing period in November.

"I chose New Mexico State because I like that it's in the west and the WAC is competitive," Altenburg said. "I like the staff and the girls that I met when I came on a visit."

Altenburg visited Las Cruces in June on an unofficial visit.  She said the University of Colorado, Indiana State, Utah State and Texas Christian also showed interest.

"New Mexico State was the first one that offered and I knew I liked it so I said yes right away, " Altenburg said.

Altenburg is a three-sport star at Elko High School.  She was an all-state triple jumper and an all-league volleyball player.  On the basketball court, Altenburg was a team most valuable player the last two years.  Among Altenburg's accomplishments after her junior season, she was named to the Las Vegas Review Journal All-State team as a third-team selection.
