LAYTON - There was not much for Riverton coach Ron Ence to complain about in the second and third quarters of the Silverwolves' game against Layton. Riverton was making shots, executing well and playing good defense.
The fourth quarter was a different story.
"We had a lot of turnovers," said Riverton's leading scorer Alle Finch.
Still, the Silverwolves built a big enough lead in the first three quarters to hold on to a 57-43 win over Layton to win their sixth game of the season against one loss.
"We weren't prepared," Layton coach Van Price said. "[Their lead] just gradually happened."
The Lancers started out slow but scored six points in the last minute of the first quarter to cut the lead to a basket. But, Riverton pulled away in the second quarter behind strong team shooting. Even 6-foot-2 center Chelsea Sorensen stepped outside of the key to drain a shot.
The Silverwolves' strong shooting continued into the second half. In the third, Riverton was 5 for 6 from the field before Layton called a timeout with 2:57 left in the quarter.
By then, the lead had ballooned to 41-22, the biggest of the night.
Riverton was led by Finch in that quarter.
She was 4-for-6 from the field and made both of her free throws. She finished with 15 points.

"Alle did just as good as job as you can do," Ence said. " Guarding, who I think, is the best shooting guard in the state."
Ence is talking about Sheila Adams. Finch did a good job of keeping her from getting good looks at the basket. But in the second half, Adams had 16 points and finished with a game-high 24 points.
She was the spark behind Layton's 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter.
"Sheila can do whatever we want her to do but she's team first," Price said. "When it comes down to it, we just give the ball to Sheila. That's what's happened to us lately, we're down and we're forced to catch up. We need to play like that from the beginning."
