HONOLULU –
McCade Olsen scored a game-high 23 points and Carl Arts had 14 points to lead Alaska Anchorage to a 64-53 men’s basketball victory over Chaminade at McCabe Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Seawolves (6-3) also got eight points from freshman Kevin White and seven from senior Chris Bryant as they used their defense on a night when their shots weren’t falling.

Forward Rodrick Johnson tallied 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Silverswords (4-4) but UAA held the hosts scoreless for a 6-minute stretch late in the game to pull away for the win.

The Seawolves were slightly outshot overall, 45.3 percent to 44.6 percent, but they held a huge advantage from the three-point line, making 6 of 15 to Chaminade’s 1 of 12. Arts and White were both 2 of 4 from long range, while freshman Lonnie Ridgeway nailed his only trey attempt.

UAA trailed 17-13 early before going on a 13-4 run that gave it the lead for good. Chaminade cut the advantage to two or three points in the second half, but the Seawolves responded each time.

Olsen’s offensive performance was the second-best of his career and the second-most points for a Seawolf this year.
