LYON, France -- The Weber State women's basketball team split the first two of three games against European competition last week, falling to Laveyron on Thursday before picking up a win against Case Basket on Saturday.
The Wildcats opened the trip with a 67-59 loss in their first taste of international competition as Laveyron (from Lyon, France) pulled off the eight-point win. Caitlin Anderson led the team with 12 points and had four rebounds. Lacie Barnes had 8 rebounds and 4 points, while Karlee Weight and Tonya Schnibbe each had 8 points.
"I thought is was a well played game against a veteran team," said WSU head coach Carla Taylor. "We played hard and adjusted well to the different style of play."
In the team's second outing, they grabbed a win, downing Case Basket of Montreux, Switzerland 71-67. Ali Thorderson had 18 points to lead the 'Cats, while Caitlin Anderson had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Jessica Smith added 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Wildcats will have a few days off before facing Nice Cobasket for their final competition of the trip.
