Lyman's Anderson commits to Southern Utah

Lyman's Tayler Anderson will be taking her basketball skills south next winter.

Anderson became the first girl in Wyoming to make a Division I commitment for basketball when she verbally committed to Southern Utah last week.

"It just felt like a good fit," Anderson said Wednesday.

Anderson, who has already been selected to the all-state basketball team three times in her career, averaged 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game last season.

SUU went 6-24 last year as a member of the Summit League, but lost only one senior from the squad. Former Cody and Sheridan College star Lyndie NeVille plays for the Thunderbirds.

Anderson's coach at Lyman, Tom Wells, said he's glad Anderson made her decision early.

"For me, that's really good because now she can kind of relax and have fun and that's not in the back of her head," Wells said. " .. We're proud of her."

Added Anderson, "I can just go out and play instead of worrying about being recruited."

Wells said Anderson first got noticed by the SUU coaching staff during the summer, when she played for a traveling squad in Utah. Another player from that traveling squad has also given a verbal commitment to SUU, Anderson said.

Basketball players cannot sign official Division I letters of intent for basketball until Nov. 12.
