Aggie Men Hold Blue-White Scrimmage

LOGAN, Utah - Two days prior to its first exhibition game of the 2008-09 season, Utah State's men's basketball team held its first public outing on Wednesday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in its annual Blue-White Scrimmage as veteran head coach Stew Morrill ran his team through two 10-minute sessions in front of approximately 2,500 fans.

Sophomore guard Tyler Newbold had a game-high 11 points as he was 3-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Sophomore forward  Matt Formisano added eight points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 shooting from the free throw line, while freshman guard Skyler Halford had seven points on 3-of-3 shooting.

Sophomore center Modou Niang had another impressive outing as he scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting and added three blocks. Freshman forward Brady Jardine led USU with six rebounds.

As a group, Utah State shot 52.8 percent from the field (28-53), 54.5 percent from three-point range (6-11) and 72.7 percent from the free throw line (8-11). USU also had 16 assists, 16 turnovers and 11 steals on the night.

Next up for Utah State will be its first exhibition game of the season against Northwest Nazarene on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
