Long Range Shooting Helps Griffins Beat College of Idaho

November 22, 2008

CALDWELL, Idaho - It was a tough shooting night for Westminster
standards against the College of Idaho on Saturday night, but the
Griffins escaped with an 81-71 victory.  No. 13 Westminster shot just
45.8 percent from the floor but made eight 3-pointers and went 19-of-22
from the foul line.  Westminster is now 8-0 for the first time in school
history while the College of Idaho drops to 1-5.

Geoff Payne led Westminster with 21 points, recording his first
double-double of the season as he collected 10 rebounds

Jeramie Hopson had his best night of the season with 16 points, shooting 4-of-8 from
beyond the arc.  The eight 3-pointers proved to be a big difference in
the game as Westminster had an 8-5 advantage in that department.

Danny Stosich scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, helping
Westminster to a slim 28-26 advantage in the paint.  The griffins also
held a 36-34 rebounding edge and turned 11 offensive rebounds into 17
points.  Westminster built a 41-26 halftime lead and eventually pushed
the lead to 22 early in the second half.

College of Idaho got 19 points and nine rebounds from Craig McGee.  They
shot 46.4 percent from the field and forced Westminster into 14
turnovers.  The Yotes bench scored 24 points with 19 coming from Steffen
Spinks.

Payne and Jordan Jacobs were named to the Golden Rule Shootout
All-Tournament Team for Westminster.
The Griffins went 2-0 at the
tournament for the second consecutive year.  Westminster will next face
Grand View at the Westminster Thanksgiving Classic.  That game is
Friday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
