SLCC women pick up first conference win 

Salt Lake City, UT. (January 16, 2009)  The Salt Lake Community College Women’s Basketball team picked up their first SWAC conference win of the season against The College of Eastern Utah.  The Bruins won this close game 60-57. The game featured 10 ties, and eight lead changes. 

The SLCC women had offensive contributions from sophomores Marquina Gilliam-Hicks and Nicole Brady and freshman Kelsey Sparkman. Gilliam-Hicks scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and she was 6-11 from the floor. Brady scored 20 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and she was 12-13 from the free throw line. To finish, Sparkman had a season-high 14 points, and 8 rebounds. 

On the defensive side of the ball, for the Bruins sophomore Dayna Burgess and Sparkman each had a team-leading 4 steals on the night. Coming off the bench, Amanda Hansen had 2 steals and 5 rebounds. As a whole, the team held the Eagles to 32% shooting from the floor, and 12% from the 3-point line. 

The SLCC Bruins are back in action at the Bruin Arena tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., when they face Colorado Northwestern Community College.
