MACON, Ga. - FGCU’s Reggie Chambers turned in the best week of his early career helping the Eagles to their first three-game win streak as a Division I program. For his efforts, he became the first freshman this season to capture the Player of the Week award, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Chambers, who hails from Miramar, Fla., helped the Eagles improve to 4-3 in A-Sun play, culminating with a huge upset win against the previously undefeated ETSU Buccaneers. In FGCU's 85-76 win against Stetson on Thursday night, Chambers filled the stat page, collecting 13 points, six boards, four assists, and a pair of steals. In leading the Eagles to their largest margin of victory in a conference game, an 80-56 win against USC Upstate, Chambers finished with 16 points, four assists and three steals.

The 5-9 guard had his biggest game of the week in Monday night’s 64-61 upset of ETSU. Chambers scored 14 points, grabbed three boards, dished out three assists, and picked up the game-winning three-point play with 37 seconds left in the game. Chambers also helped FGCU hold ETSU standout Courtney Pigram to 3-of-14 shooting from the field.

The freshman has improved his production as the calendar advanced to 2009. In five games, he has averaged 14.4 points per game, 3.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals while hitting on 44.4 percent of his shots. His season average has improved to 7.6 points per game, fourth among A-Sun freshman. He shares the lead among that group with 43 assists.
