Girls basketball: SL Metro Prospects shine at Vegas tourney

The Salt Lake Metro Prospects, a local girls club basketball team predominantly comprised of the top sophomores in the Intermountain West, went 2-2 at the recent adidas Spring Classic tournament in Las Vegas.

The tournament features many of the top adidas-sponsored programs in the country and was held during the recent NCAA open evaluation period, April 17-19.

The Prospects' most impressive win came against the Vegas Elite (NV), 74-69. Vegas Elite features junior point guard Aaryn Ellenberg, who is ranked no. 17 in country and recently committed to Oklahoma.

The Prospects were led by Springville's Lexi Eaton who had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the win. The Prospects had a very balanced scoring effort. In addition to Eaton's 13 points, Stacey Kerr (Spring Creek HS NV) added 12 points (2 threes), Morgan's Ashley Garfield had 11 points, Shelby Rudd (Mt. Crest) 10 points (2 threes), Pine View's Sadi Dias and Layton's Addison Moore added 9 points each.

The nation's top sophomore shot blocker; Rachel Morris (Virgin Valley HS NV) added 8 points and 15 rebounds while Springville's Mackenzie Nielson tallied 6 boards in the winning effort.
