The five things you should do if you currently DO NOT hold an athletic scholarship offer

As you can see by our various postings of where Metro players are going to college, recruiting and ultimate decision of your collegiate choice is an ongoing process. Very few of the ultimate college choices made by players are during the early signing period.
NAIA and Junior colleges for example do not have an early signing period. In many cases college coaches at these levels have yet to begin the recruiting process, in fact many are still trying to complete their rosters for the current year.
The website Recruiting-101.com had a recent article regarding the five things you should do if you do not hold an athletic scholarship offer. Here is the list of the five things.
1. Re-evaluate your athletic options
2. Broaden your horizons and market yourself to other schools.
3. Get prepared for the coming athletic season and the recruiting pieces that come with it.
4. Put in the extra time
5. Lower your expectations.
Another piece of advice I would give is to be patient. There are many instances of colleges that initially evaluated players and thought they weren't good enough that were evaluated later and given scholarships. Some of those are starting for their teams at the d-1 level today.
The following is an excerpt from the article from the website Recruiting-101.com.
2.) Broaden your horizon and market yourself to new schools
There is a reason you don’t have a scholarship so what you need to do is get your information and videos out to new coaches to look at. This may mean broadening your search from your surrounding states to within a ten hour driving distance. Taking the time to do this is very worthwhile simply because there may have been great schools athletically and academically in a state you have never looked into.
4.) Put in the extra time
X-Box 360 and Playstation 3 can be a lot of fun. But if you are serious about earning an athlete scholarship, put the games away and get yourself putting more time into your chosen sport. It could be shooting 500 more jump shots in the evening for basketball. You may want to lift weights for an extra 30 minutes or try to run a mile each day to get in shape. It doesn’t matter what you are doing now. Bump up the workouts and prove that you have what it takes to make the strides needed in that sport.

I cannot emphasize no. 4 PUT IN THE EXTRA TIME enough. ALL players should do this including those that will sign early or have made their decision. It isn't enough to merely get the scholarship offer, we want our players to be successful in college as well.
We will be starting up our fall workouts in the next few weeks. In addition, there are a number of events we will be hosting this fall that will help with both the recruiting process as well as individual player progression.
