UHSAA Basketball Moratorium / NCAA Recruiting

The Utah High School Activities Association mandates an eight week moratorium for boys and girls basketball. The moratorium period runs from August 1, 2009 to September 25,2009. High school coaches and their players are not allowed to be in the gym at the same time. No workouts or practices are allowed during the moratorium period.
The NCAA d-1 open evaluations periods for men's and women's basketball open prior to the end of the moratorium period. Based on an UHSAA memo concerning the subject, the NCAA d-1 coaches would need to come to the gym with the parent in attendance. The high school coach would not be able to attend or be in the gym. NCAA d-1 coaches are only allowed to visit and evaluate high school players at their high schools during the evaluation period.
The one exception to this rule is the fall evaluation period for women's basketball October 2 to 4 where they are allowed to attend NCAA sanctioned events such as the Intermountain Hoops Fall Evaluation Showcase. The Showcase will be held on October 3.
There are no exceptions for men's basketball all fall evaluations must take place at the high school during open gym.
