Girls Basketball: Jasmine Porter - One more thing

I guess I should've talked to her father, Bobby Porter, the LCA boys basketball head coach, before posting the first blog. He just sent me a text message saying that Utah, Villanova and San Diego State just recently offered scholarships. Porter didn't say when his daughter would make a decision. I do know if Jasmine Porter ended up at Utah, she'd give the Utes an athletic shot in the arm when it comes to the post for the first time in a few years. And with the freshman class Elaine Elliott bought in this year, Porter would give that team much needed depth.

Girls Basketball: Jasmine Porter gaining exposure

If Hoopgurlz.com is any indication, Jasmine Porter, a 6-2 small forward from Layton Christian, is going to be a hot commodity this fall. Porter, according to Hoopgurlz, "is a fluid athlete, expolsive off the floor, with long arms which make her more than an adept shot blocker and potential for lockup defender at the next level. She can put the ball on the floor, pass it and even shoot it, from time to time, out to the arc. The one thing she lacks is kind of an elite-level swagger, which may only be the result of where she's from, not where she's going."

I appears that Porter has an excellent shot at joining her brother, BJ, at the division I level. She's been dominant at the Class 2A level, and she's poised for a run at player of the year if her team can win a few more games. Personally, I think Hoopgurlz has it right. Porter's one of the nicest kids you ever want to meet, which can both be good and bad.

I know there are instate schools that are interested, and speaking with one instate coach this spring on Porter, it was made clear that Porter needs to develop a little more of a killer instinct, which should definitely come in time.

Porter was a prep difference maker this past year for the Tribune. Much should be expected from her next year, as she's one of the best players in the state.
