ANCHORAGE - Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball head coach Tim Moser announced Tuesday that a pair of Utah natives JC transfer Torle Nenbee and prep Brooke Larsen have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Seawolves in 2009-10.
Nenbee, a 5-8 guard, played her first two collegiate seasons at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, where she gained NJCAA All-Region 18 first-team honors in 2008-09 after averaging 12.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 58.7 percent shooting. Originally from Nigeria, she was a second-team all-state honoree at Salt Lake City Cypress High School in 2007, averaging 15.7 points as a senior.
Larsen, a 6-0 forward, garnered Class 5A first-team all-state honors from both the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News as a senior at Kearns High School. She was a McDonald’s All-America nominee and gained a spot on the Deseret News’ large-schools West Senior All-Star squad after averaging 13 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 2008-09.
“Torle is a tremendous athlete and a perfect fit for our program,” said Moser, the 2008-09 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. “Her athleticism will allow her to play different positions on both ends of the floor. She is an all-around player who can defend, post, rebound, and create shot opportunities for her teammates. She will definitely make an immediate impact.
“Brooke is going to have a great career at UAA. She is extremely tough and very skilled. She is a great perimeter shooter and not afraid of any challenge. Her character will allow her to reach her maximum potential as a player. We feel she’ll be ready to contribute right away to our program.”
Larsen and Nenbee bring UAA’s 2009-10 recruiting class to four players, joining Alex Coon (5-10, F, Fr., Wasilla/Colony HS) and Jessica Dela Cruz (5-8, G, Jr., Galt, Calif./San Joaquin Delta Coll.).
The Seawolves are the defending GNAC co-champions and two-time defending NCAA Division II West Region champions. UAA loses seven players, four guards and three posts from last year’s team that went 31-4.
