Layton Christian’s Porter commits to SDSU

LAYTON — Layton Christian Academy’s Jasmine Porter announced Wednesday morning her intention to play college basketball at San Diego State University.

“She wanted to get this out of the way early, and now Jasmine can concentrate on the state volleyball tournament and her senior season in basketball,” Bobby Porter said of his daughter.

While Jasmine was recruited in volleyball as well, basketball was the right choice, her dad said.

“Hey, we’re a basketball family,” Bobby Porter joked. Jasmine’s older brother, BJ, currently plays basketball at the University of Portland.

Jasmine Porter — who had a great summer with her Salt Lake Metro club team — was recruited by many schools, and had narrowed he choice to SDSU and Utah State, along with Villanova, South Carolina and Colorado.

“Utah State made a great pitch,” Bobby Porter said, “but the Aztecs are a good program in transition.”

SDSU is ranked among the top 25 this season. Porter, at 6-foot-2, is projected to play small forward
