Seasiders Roll at Asia-Pacific

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team flew out to a 63-26 halftime lead and coasted to a 101-64 win tonight over China University of Mining and Technology in the final game of the American Money Group Asia-Pacific Basketball Tournament in Laie.  The Seasiders shot 66.7 (26-39) percent from the field and 77.8 (7-9) percent from beyond the three-point line in the opening stanza to put the game out of reach early.

Junior Marques whippy scored 24 points on 12-15 shooting, pulled down seven rebounds, made seven steals, and handed out four assists in just 23 minutes of play to lead the Seasider attack.  Rory Patterson was a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc and dropped in 17 points while Jet Chang tallied 15 and Cory Chase knocked down 12 off the bench.  Chase also led the Seasiders with eight rebounds.

Liu Yangyang had 19 points to lead the Chinese team which was participating in the tournament for the first time.

Top-ranked BYU–Hawaii will open the regular season on November 25th against Oakland City (IN) at 7:30 pm in Laie.
