BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Newbury College men's basketball team lost to a tough Massachusetts of Technology team Thursday evening, 76-50. Sophomore Noel Hollingsworth led the way for the Engineers recording a double-double, tallying a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds in MIT's seventh victory of the season, matching the best start in program history.
In the first half, Newbury played solid defense forcing seven MIT turnovers including two of the team's three steals by freshman Timothy Young. The Nighthawks went to the locker room at the half, trailing the Engineers by just seven, 33-26, behind Young's team-leading nine points and junior John Rowley's eight points.
MIT returned to the floor in the second period and took advantage of 11 turnovers by Newbury, outscoring the Nighthawks, 43-24, in the second half. Hollingsworth played a solid game for the Engineers, hitting 20 of his 30 points in the second and was nearly perfect from the charity stripe, netting eight of his nine attempts on the night.
