Erin Foster knows she owes one to her Alta teammate Becca Beaudoin.
A forgettable night for Beaudoin allowed Foster to have a night to remember Wednesday as Foster nailed a career-high 24 points in the Hawks' 69-42 road victory at Cottonwood.
Sophomore Makenzi Morrison, one of the state's best point guards, got her 25 points, eight steals and six assists as Alta (5-0) remained unbeaten. Foster got hers because Beaudoin couldn't.
Cottonwood (1-2) kept its box-and-one defense on Beaudoin, who averaged 19 points and sunk 17 three-pointers in Alta's first four games. The constant attention, along with foul trouble and missing four early shots contributed to Beaudoin going scoreless.
Morrison registered her third 20-point game of the season and wasn't going to be stopped because she gets her points on transition and Alta's ball movement. The opportunity was there for either to Foster to deliver or a balanced scoring effort to materialize.
Alta coach Kristi Jensen got both. A third Hawk, Hayli Shurtz (14 points), reached double figures.
"You put the box on us ... I got three other players I can count on," Jensen said, " I'll let someone else have the glory for one night."
While not exactly her breakout game -- Foster hit 19 last Friday against Dixie -- the junior appreciated her night as the result of a team effort.
"We knew they were going box on us and we said, 'We'll play four on four,' " Foster said. "They can't stop us as a team. We're all shooters. We got it. The box opened up a lot for me. When they [Cottonwood] never moved on, I just lit it up."
While Bouidon was on the bench as Alta was in complete control after taking a 33-8 second quarter, Jensen emphasized to the senior she still made a contribution.
"I said, 'Yeah, it stinks to be you tonight because you had to sit in the corner because of the box''' Jensen said. '''But look at what your team has done.' She agreed. That's what I love about this team."
Fehi Fakailoatonga led the Colts with 14 points, 12 coming in the second half.
