Chambers Locks Up Back-to-Back Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – Reggie Chambers’ steady hand at point guard helped FGCU to its second three-game win streak as a Division I program. For his effort, he earned consecutive Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced on Monday.
Chambers collected 28 points, 17 assists, 11 rebounds and six steals in FGCU’s two wins last week. Against USC Upstate, the sophomore guard added 16 points to complement his eight rebounds and six assists to help lead the Eagles past the Spartans. In the win against North Carolina Central, the Miramar, Fla., native registered a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 assists.
In the Eagles’ three-game win streak, Chambers averaged 14.7 points, 8.0 assists and 4.7 rebounds. Prior to win streak, he posted only 10.2 points, 2.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. His field goal percentage shot up to 61.5 percent in the victories after hitting on 42.2 percent in the opening six games of the year. He connected on 8 of 12 from the 3-point arc after opening the year making just 5-of-21 (23.8 percent) in the first six games.
Chambers becomes the first A-Sun men’s basketball player to win consecutive Player of the Week awards this season. Mercer’s James Florence won the last set of back-to-back weekly honors – winning for the first two weeks of the 2008-09 season.
