Morgan's Ashley Garfield has no problem taking over on the court — whether it's the volleyball or basketball court. During volleyball season, the 5-foot-10 junior was the go-to middle and was always the one to get the kill when her team needed it. That, combined with her impressive blocking skills helped her team make it to the state title match and was a big reason why she was named the Tribune's Class 3A MVP.
And as the seasons changed from volleyball to basketball, Garfield has continued to be dominant. She has been a scoring and rebounding machine for the Trojans, especially last night in a big 53-46 win over Judge. She had five blocks and four steals to go along with her 17 points and 19 rebounds. But those kind of numbers aren't anything new. She's had 13 points and 20 rebounds against Ben Lomond and the first time Morgan and Judge met this year, she had 22 points — a season high — and 14 rebounds.
Garfield just may be making another case for MVP. This time, in basketball.
