McKenzie Jessop was selected a Third Team All-American.
SALT LAKE CITY – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the 2009-10 Division I Women’s Basketball All-America Teams on Tuesday. Westminster had three players receive All-American recognition. McKenzie Jessop was named a Third Team All-American while Keshia Catten and Nicole Yazzie were named Honorable Mention All-American.
Jessop, a 5-11 senior guard from Murray, averaged 13.9 points per game this season to lead the team and rank fourth in the Frontier Conference. She shot 55.3% from the field his season which is the second-best percentage for a single season in school history. She led the conference and was ninth nationally in that category. Her 104 steals are the most in a season at Westminster and rank as the fifth most in the nation. She becomes the second Griffin to be named a Third Team All-American and just the fifth to make any of the three teams in school history.
Catten, a 5-8 senior guard from Murray, averaged 13.1 points per game to rank third on the team. She set a school record with 80 makes from three-point territory this season while ranking first in the Frontier. Catten shot 50.3% from the field and 41.9% from beyond the arc to go with 111 assists and 51 steals. She was twice named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week during the season.
Yazzie, a 5-7 freshman guard from Taylorsville, was second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per contest. She led the Frontier Conference with 149 assists and her 1.64 assist-to-turnover ratio was 25th-best in the NAIA. Yazzie went 77-of-190 (40.5%) from beyond the arc ad grabbed 109 rebounds and was second on the team with 52 steals. She twice was named Frontier Conference Player of the Week and was also the Frontier Freshman of the Year. Her and Catten become the sixth and seventh Honorable Mention All-Americans in school history.
The selections are made by the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association All-America Committee and comprises a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team. There are 10 members on each of the first three All-America teams.
