Iowa State center Hamilton to transfer to LSU

Two days before the spring signing period begins, LSU coach Trent Johnson has scored a recruiting bonus in Iowa State University transfer Justin Hamilton, according to FoxSports.com’s Jeff Goodman.

Hamilton, 6-11 and 260, has to sit out next season but will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2011-12. The Alpine, Utah, native visited LSU this weekend and also considered California and Virginia.

Starting 31 games at center for the Cyclones this season, Hamilton averaged 6.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He shot 61.7 percent from the field, the fourth-best single-season percentage in school history. In Big 12 Conference play, Hamilton averaged 7.3 rebounds per game, ninth-most in the league, of which a league-best 3.7 per game came on the offensive end.

Hamilton hails from an athletic family. His mother, Tami, and father, Larry, both competed collegiately at BYU. Larry Hamilton was a starting defensive tackle on the Cougars’ 1984 national championship team.
