Men's Hoops Signs 1st Team All-Conference JC Forward

Wil Carter, a 6-foot-8 first-team all-conference forward last season for the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to attend San Jose State University beginning in the 2010 Fall semester. George Nessman, men's basketball coach at San Jose State, made the announcement.

The 22-year-old Carter averaged 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds a game last season for the Salt Lake Community College team that posted a 24-8 win-loss record. He was second on the team and tenth in the Scenic West Athletic Conference in scoring. Carter led the Bruins and was seventh in the conference in rebounding.

"We are excited and pleased that Wil Carter has joined our program. He has excelled both on the court and in the classroom. Wil brings good size, strength, competitive toughness and athleticism. He can score inside and out to the three point line," said Nessman. "He played for a highly successful junior college program at Salt Lake City and for an outstanding coach in Norm Parrish. Wil is a great fit for our program and roster. We are confident that Wil will impact our program in a positive manner and be a huge asset going forward."

Coming to San Jose State in the fall as a junior, Carter played the 2007 season at Salt Lake Community College and then fulfilled a Latter-Day Saints mission assignment in Brazil. He played his high school basketball for Highland High in Pocatello, Idaho.

Carter is the second player to sign with the San Jose State program since November 2009. During the early signing period, 6-foot-2 guard Derek Brown from Chino Hills (Calif.) High signed with the Spartans. Brown, a Division 1A first-team All-C.I.F. pick for the second season in a row, averaged 15.2 points and 5.6 assists a game in 2009-10.
