Lauren Mott, SO, F, Logan
There are go-to players, there are do-it-all players, and then there are go-to, do-it-all players.
Mott is the latter.
One of Logan's promising class of sophomores, Mott led the team in rebounds with nine per game, also scoring 8.5 ppg and 1.6 steals, a block and an assist.
"Lauren's pretty much an all-around player - she's a scorer, she got on the boards, she led our team rebounding-wise. She's kind of a go-to girl," Bennett said. "... We played her a lot as a guard ... so Lauren had to do a lot of her scoring by taking from outside in and driving to the basket."
After a stellar freshman year that earned her the title of Newcomer of the Year, Mott picked up right where she left off, scoring a game-high 14 points and 15 rebounds. Mott scored in double figures nine times on the year, including six of Logan's first 10 games and both of the Grizzlies' playoff games.
Mott was a huge part of Logan's trip to the playoffs, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the Grizzlies' win in a state tourney play-in game at Timpview. The second-team All-Region 5 selection was a big reason the Grizzlies outrebounded their opponents an average of 35.8-30.1 on the season.
"When we played Timpview, (one reporter) said ‘Man, you guys rebound like crazy.' I thought it was not one of our better games, but he was really impressed with our rebounds," Bennett said, adding how optimistic he is about how Mott and the rest of Logan's underclassmen played this season. "... We've got a few of them (underclassmen that got a lot of minutes). ... We're going to lose three good seniors, but we've got some good young kids."
